The Council's Highways Contractor, Colas, will be undertaking urgent repairs from Monday 9 January 2012 for approximately 4 to 6 weeks, subject to appropriate weather conditions.
For safety reasons, the road from the bridge's junction with Dock Road to its junction with Twelve Quays Ferry Terminal Access, will be closed temporarily. Traffic will be diverted via Tower Road, Rendel Street, Corporation Road, Duke Street, Dock Road and vice versa. All diversion routes will be signed and footpaths will remain open.
Councillor Harry Smith, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transport Services explained:
“We apologise for the temporary inconvenience that this work will cause. We are committed to minimising disruption as far as possible and will make sure that adequate signage is in place to direct traffic to alternative routes. The condition of the bridge deck has deteriorated and this work is essential to bringing it back up to the required standards.”
The Council has consulted Norfolk Link Ferry Terminal, Merseyside Police, Merseytravel and Emergency Services about the works.
